"Transit" and "Non-Transit" Status

What is the difference between “Transit” / “Non-Transit” passage from Turkish Straits?

-A passage through Turkish Straits is classified as “Transit” when the voyage does not involve a Turkish Port at any point. (E.g. Trieste – Constanta)
-A passage through Turkish Straits is classified as “Non-Transit” when a Turkish Port is part of the voyage. (E.g. Aliaga – Constanta)

Is there a difference on applicable tariffs?

-A “Transit” passage is subject to transit tariff and a “Non-Transit” passage is subject to free pratique tariff.
-Non-transit dues are much lower in comparison with transit dues.
